Soc Day 33 - Stereotypes, Hate Crimes, & Theories of Prejudice

Objective:  Examine race and ethnicity in a sociological construct.

Task:  To begin class, we'll finish our notes on stereotypes, prejudice, hate crimes, and the theoretical perspectives of prejudice.  To illustrate the issues addressed in these notes, we'll consider some biographies and stereotypes in the popular media.  We'll also explore an image associated with hate crimes.  If there is any time remaining in class, you'll work on the study guide for tomorrow's quiz, "Investigating Genocide," or your reflective essay.

Homework:
  • Tuesday, March 18 - Race & ethnicity quiz (study guide on the Moodle)
  • Wednesday, March 19 - "Investigating Genocide" due by 3:00
  • Monday, March 24 - Reflective essay due
