HWC Day 36 - Renaissance Ideals & the Printing Press

Objective: Assess understanding of the article, "Dawn of the Renaissance."  Define humanism, secularism, materialism, individualism, and classicism in relation to the Renaissance.  Interpret the significance of the printing press in the communication of new ideas during the Era.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please clear your desks and spread out around the room in preparation for your quiz.  You'll spend the first portion of class taking your reading comprehension quiz on "Dawn of the Renaissance."  When you've completed the quiz you will pick up a dictionary and define the terms: secularism, humanism, individualism, materialism, and classicism. Then, you'll split into two separate groups. One group will identify these traits in Renaissance art work while another group completes a worksheet discussing the significance of the moveable-type press. We will reconvene to watch a short clip on the printing press.  Finally, you'll use the remainder of class-time working on the Flat Connections Global Project.
