CPWC Day 36 - Exploring the Renaissance

Objective: Define humanism, secularism, materialism, and classicism in relation to the Renaissance. Interpret the significance of the printing press during the Early Modern era.

Task: We'll begin class by labeling Northern Europe on our map. Then, we'll review "Why the Renaissance, Why Florence."  Next, I'll provide you with some notes to set the stage for our exploration of the Renaissance.  For the majority of the class, you'll delve into aspects of the Renaissance.  One group will identify the ideas of humanism, secularism, materialism, and individualism in Renaissance art with a comparison to medieval art. A second group will read about the impact and significance of the printing press. We will reconvene to finish class with a short clip about the printing press and then complete a chart on the differences between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
