HWC1.2 Day 32 - Central Asia, Arab-Israeli Conflict, & Modernization

Objectives:   Assess knowledge and understanding of Central Asia.  Examine Zionism and other nationalist movements in the North Africa and Southwest Asia.   Identify and evaluate significant events in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Task:  As you come into class, please get out your computer and pick up the worksheet on the computer cart.  We'll spend the first 30 minutes of class taking a reading comprehension quiz on chapter 10 of Globalization & Diversity.  When you've finished the quiz, be sure to email the results to jessica.friday@svpanthers.org AND to yourself.  Then, return the computers and complete the worksheet that you picked up at the beginning of class.

Next, I'll explain the procedure for next week's "Meet & Greet" with Midpark High School.  Each of you (with the exception of the student leaders) will be either creating a slide, writing a "script," and/or speaking to one of the points below:
  • Introduction to community (Hellertown/Bethlehem)
  • Introduction to SVHS
  • Description of HWC
  • Discussion of project - What have you learned so far?  What are the positive aspects of the project?  What aspects of the project could be improved?  What would you still like to learn from this experience?
Then, we'll use the Israel map to examine the Arab-Israeli conflict.  Finally, we'll end class with notes on the trends that have shaped the Middle East in the past century (see Prezi notes below).
