CPWC Day 9 - Globalization & Development

Objective:  Investigate development, globalization, and interdependence from the mid-twentieth century to the present

Task:  We'll begin class with a brief discussion current events discussion.  Then, we'll discuss "100% American" and take notes on some key vocabulary terms.   Then you'll meet with your assigned groups to begin the globalization, development, and interdependence stations.  As you work through these stations, be sure to keep the "BIG picture" in mind.  In other words, ask yourself,  "How does this information help us to better understand our world and ourselves?"  

Homework:
  • Wednesday, 9/11 - "Globalization, Development, and Interdependence" quiz
  • Friday, 9/13 - Unit 1 Test  
Test Preparation:  Friday's 200 point test will consist of six parts: 1) Multiple choice, 2) Matching, 3) Locating Cultural Regions, 4) Map Skills, 5) Interpreting a Chart, 6) Short Answer

Be sure that you can answer the following questions in COMPLETE paragraphs with supporting details:
  • Tell how each of the following elements of culture helps to shape a culture: a) language, b) family, c) religion, d) government. 
  • How is a developing nation different from a developed nation? Be specific and give examples. 
  • Improved technology has led to greater interdependence among nations.  Describe why two of the following are issues of global concern: a) uneven economic development, b) the environment, c) human rights, d) terrorism. 
REMINDER:  You should be studying on a regular basis!  If you have questions, be sure to ASK! Mrs. Friday is available during period 12 on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday if you need help studying.
