CPWC Day 14 - Africa: Geography & Misperceptions

IMPORTANT:  If you missed the test on Friday, please make arrangements to stay until 4:00 tomorrow to make up the test.

Objective:  Identify and label countries, cities, bodies of water, and major geographic features of Sub-Saharan Africa.  Identify and dispel misconceptions about Africa.

Task:  When you come into class, please get out your homework and a piece of blank paper. Following a brief review of ethnocentrism, you'll create a K-W-L-S chart on which you'll identify what you "k"now about Sub-Saharan Africa and what you "w"ant to know about Africa.

After I've checked homework, we'll spend a few minutes discussing your existing knowledge of Africa. Then, we'll begin labeling our "master" map of Africa.

Finally, you'll fill in the "l"earned column of your chart while watching "What Do We Know About Africa?"  Before leaving, please identify at least three items you "s"till want to know about Africa.

Homework:
  • TODAY - Labeled West Africa map
  • Tuesday, September 17 - Labeled Central Africa map
  • Wednesday, September 18 - Labeled South and East Africa maps
  • Thursday, September 19 - Comment due to current events forum on Moodle by 3:00 pm
  • Friday, September 20 - Chapter 18 reading quiz (reading notes may be used)
  • Wednesday, September 25 - Africa map quiz
  • Friday, September 27 - Unit 2 Test
