HWC Day 49 - Brief History of Japan

Objectives: Identify the social, political and economic characteristics of the feudal period, the Tokugawa Shogunate, and the Meiji Period in Japan.  Examine the efforts and means of modernization under the Meiji Emperor.  Apply the historical analysis to discuss the circumstances  that contributed to Japans motivations to become an international world power.

Task:  Today, we'll begin our study of Japanese history during the 19th and 20th centuries. I will be collecting your Transnationalism packets.  Next, you will independently research several eras and topics in Japanese history and compile this information by recording a voice thread. I have supplied you with resource links and topics to cover in your research and exploration. Additionally, with each topic, I have asked you to address several questions when you make your final recording on the topic. Please reference my comments on each slide that explain for directions. When you have finished the summary recording, pose a question for your classmates to discuss. During class time and for homework please listen to each slide and take notes. Lastly, leave at least two comments on the voice thread in response to your classmate's questions.
