WHAP Day 8 - Social Changes in the Neolithic Era

Day 2 - PAW 2

KC1.2.II. Agriculture and pastoralism began to transform human societies.
  • ENV1 - Explain how different types of societies have adapted to and affected their environments.
  • SOC1 - Explain how distinctions based on kinship, ethnicity, class, gender, and race influenced the development and transformations of social hierarchies.
  • SOC4 - Explain how the development of specialized labor systems interacted with the development of social hierarchies.
Objectives:  Compare and contrast the production and consumption of food in Paleolithic and Neolithic societies.

Task:  Welcome to 8000 BCE!  When you arrive to class, you'll be assigned to a "tribe" with whom you will simulate life in the Paleolithic and Neolithic periods.  Download "Paleolithic vs. Neolithic Simulation."  Read through the directions and conduct your simulation!  You'll spend the first 20 minutes of class on round 1 and then the second 20 minutes on round 2.  Finally, we'll spend the last portion of class debriefing the activity.
