WHAP Day 16 - Models of Empire

Day 4 - PAW 4


KC2.2.1.   The number and size of key states and empires grew dramatically as rulers imposed political unity on areas where previously there had been competing states.
  • ENV2 - Explain how environmental factors, disease, and technology affected patterns of human migration and settlement over time.
  • SB6 - Explain the political and economic interactions between states and non-state actors over time. 
KC2.2.II.  Empires and states developed new techniques of imperial administration based, in part, on the success of earlier political forms.

  • SB3 - Explain how and why economic, social cultural, and geographical factors have influenced the processes of state building, expansion and dissolution.
  • SB4 - Explain how and why internal and external political factors have influenced the process of state building, expansion, and dissolution.
Objectives:  Define the stages of empire. Identify the geographic location of states and empires in the Classical and Pre-Classical Eras.

Task:  Good morning! When you arrive to class, please download and read "Aton Hymn and Psalm 104" (in KC2.1 folder).   Work with a partner to complete a SOAP analysis and POV statement on the documents.  Then, I'll conduct a brief lecture to introduce you to the Conrad Demarest Model of  Empires.  Finally, you'll have the remainder of class to work on your mapping project.

Homework Due Dates:
  • TODAY - LS Chapter 7 &  8 assignments due by midnight
  • Wednesday, September 20 - Report directly to the library for WHAP class
  • Wednesday, September 20 - LS Chapter 9, 10, & 11 assignments due by midnight
  • Friday, September 22 - Completed "Mapping Periods 1 & 2" due in class
