HWC Day 30 - Investigating History & Contemporary Issues

Objective:   Explain the strength and eventual weaknesses of the Ottoman Empire.  Determine how society, particularly the role of women, has changed throughout the region.  Sort key events and current issues relating to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Task:   As you come into class, please get ready for your "Roots of Muslim Rage" reading quiz.  You will need a pencil and your reading notes put away in an easily accessible location.  After the quizzes have been distributed, you will have 25 minutes to complete the quiz, including a 10 minute note window.  When you finish the quiz, please pick up the Islamic civilizations DBQ and work on this packet until all of your classmates have finished.  We'll spend a few minutes reviewing the "Chronology and Connections" packet before we move onto the investigations.

Finally, we'll spend the last portion of class investigating the Ottoman Empire, women in Islam, the Arab-Israeli/Israeli-Palestinian issue, and environmental concerns in Central Asia.  After you complete each investigation, make a comment to the appropriate post on the HWC blog.
