Objective: Identify the causes and consequences of Japanese expansion in the 19th and 20th centuries. Compare and contrast the interactions of Japan and China with the West.
Task: When you arrive to class, please get out your chapter 11 reading notes. We'll spend the first portion of class taking the chapter 11 reading quiz. Please turn in your finished quiz and pick up the "Rescript on Education" and analyze the text. Specifically, explain how this document reflects Japanese culture and society during the Meiji period. After a brief discussion, we'll finish our notes on Japan and compare the experiences of Japan and China.
