HWC Day 26 - "RoMR" Quiz & Historical Developments

Objectives:  Investigate Ottoman rule from the 13th to the 20th centuries.  Trace historical developments in Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Central Asia.  Examine the emergence and course of nationalism in the Middle East.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please take a hand-out from the podium.  We'll spend the first few minutes of class listening to an audio clip about the jihad.    Next, you'll have 30 minutes to complete the "Roots of Muslim Rage" reading quiz.  After you finish the quiz, please turn it in at the back of the room and pick up the Ottoman review packet.

Next, we'll finish our discussion of "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" and the Ottoman Empire.  For the last portion of class,  we'll review your perspectives charts and consider nationalism and independence in Southwest Asia.

Homework:
  • TODAY - Part III of Regional Study due (this provides some insight/background into the Bernard Lewis article)
