CPWC Day 64 - BEIC, the Green Revolution, & the Taliban

Objective:  Investigate select developments in the history of South Asia.  Analyze the lasting impact of Partition.  Evaluate the costs and benefits of the Green Revolution.

Task:  Happy Friday!  To 'll check for homework completion while you watch the video clip on the British East India Company.  Then, we'll continue our review of your South Asia history notes. Specifically, we'll examine rule by the British East India Company and the Amritsar massacre.   Next, we'll review your homework and investigate the mixed results of the Green Revolution.  Finally, for the last portion of class, you'll begin an investigation of the Taliban.

Homework:
  • TODAY  - "India's Green Revolution" due in class
  • Monday, May 5 - Completed Taliban Investigation due in class
  • Wednesday, May 7 - Unit 6 Test (study guide distributed 4/29)

  1. What were the main interests of the East India Company in the 18th and 19th centuries?
  2. Humanitarian motives are based on kindness and concern for others. What humanitarian motives came to influence the British government in its attitude to India?
  3. Give examples of ways in which contact with Indian society influenced the British.
  4. Why did the British become increasingly arrogant towards Indians?
