WestCiv Day 9 - Entering the Early Modern World

Objective:  Investigate the people and culture of the Renaissance.

Task:  Today, we'll begin our examination of the early modern period by researching significant individuals of the Renaissance.  After meeting in the library, I'll explain the Italian city-state biography project (see below) and the "Humanism, Renaissance, & Reformation" packet.  Then, as a class, we'll create a cart of books for the project and use the remainder of class to work on the project.

Homework:
  • TODAY - Unit 1 Short Answers/Essays due by 3:00 pm
  • TODAY - "Using Library Resources" due by 3:00 pm
  • Wednesday, February 6 - People Chart due at beginning of class
  • Thursday, February 7 - Italian city-state biographies due at beginning of class
  • Thursday, February 7 - ALL Unit 2 PDP's due by 4:00 pm
  • Monday, February 11 - ALL Unit 2 PDC's due by 9:00 am
  • Tuesday, February 12 - Unit 2 article review due by 3:00 pm
Italian City-State Biography Project Description:   Each of you will be in a group with 2 other students to research and create a presentation on an Italian city-state (Florence, Milan, Naples, Papal States, or Venice) during the Renaissance.  Your research should be compiled in a GoogleDoc and shared with all members of your group AND the teacher.  All presentations should include geographic and historical context as well as a description of the unique political, economic, social, and cultural characteristics of the city-state.  For the presentation, you may use a medium of your choice but it must include both audio and visual components.  Grading will be based on the provided rubric.
