WestCiv Day 13 - Protestant Reformation


Objectives:  Describe the political, economic, and cultural characteristics of the select Italian city-states during the early modern period.  Examine the ideas and course of the Protestant Reformation.

Task:  We'll start class working in groups to discuss and summarize the impact of the Italian city-states on the culture of the Renaissance.  Then, we'll continue filling in and discussing our people chart and chart on the Protestant Reformation.  Finally, for the remainder of class you'll use the Reformation hand-outs, your notes, and the textbook to answer the following questions:

1.              How did the rise of Humanism contribute to the rise of the Reformation?
2.              Why did Henry VII try to purge England of monastic communities?
3.              Why did Protestantism and capitalism complement each other?
4.              How did the Society of Jesus combat the influence of Protestantism?
5.              What role did the printing press play in the Protestant Reformation?


Homework:

  • TODAY - ALL Unit 2 PDC's due by 9:00 am
  • Wednesday, February 12 - Unit 2 article review due by 3:00 pm
  • Thursday, February 15 - Unit 2 Test
