HWC1.2 Day 5 - Collaboration & Culture

Objectives:  Assess knowledge and understanding of chapter 1 of G&D.  Define history and the social sciences as they will be used in HWC.  Identify the elements of culture.

Task: Today, we'll spend the first 30 minutes of class taking a reading comprehension quiz on chapter 1 of G&D.

Next, I'll spend a few minutes introducing your first collaborative project.  Although GGS provides a common foundation for our understanding of history and culture, we need to establish a vocabulary from history and the social sciences to study world cultures.  To do this, you'll participate in a jigsaw activity. To complete this project, you'll read and take notes on a chapter from A Civilization Primer and work with your group to create a unique, engaging presentation that explains the main ideas and vocabulary.

Finally, as we begin our collaborative project, we'll take advantage of the opportunity to discuss the differences between collaboration, cooperation, and copying.  Then we'll finish our notes on culture.
