CPWC Day 10 - Globalization & Development

Objective: Explore the ways in which culture is perpetuated, spread, and changed.  Define globalization & development.

Task: Good morning!  Today, we'll finish exploring the contemporary world through a series of stations.  Specifically, you'll work through activities to define globalization, to describe developed and developing states, explore human rights, and the global refugee crisis.

In your unit 1 folder in Schoology, open up the "Globalization & Development" folder.  Download the "globalization & development stations pkt." - you will use this document to record information from each of the following stations:
  • Station #1 - Material World Poster Analysis
  • Station #2 - Globalization
  • Station #3 - Hungry Planet Poster Analysis
  • Station #4 - State of the World Atlas
  • Station #5 - "Ayiti: The Cost of Life"  (Be prepared for frustration!  In this activity, you'll "experience" life in a developing country!)
  • Station #6 - Refugees & Human Rights
Any work not completed in class over the next two days must be completed on your own time (either at home or during period 12.  If you finish any of the stations early, please work on your unit 1 study guide OR watch one of the videos below.

Finally, we'll end class with some brief notes on historical periodization.

Homework:
  • Monday, February 6 - Stations Review
  • Wednesday, February 8 - Unit 1 Test (study guide posted Schoology on or before Thursday, February 2)
