HWC Day 47 - Japan in World History

*Quarter 2 PDP, PDC, & SJS assignments have been completed.  Please check the spreadsheet for your assignments.

Objective: Identify central tenets of the religions and philosophies that have influenced East Asia.  Investigate the geo-political and cultural significance of select events in Japan's history.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please pull up your notes on religion.   You'll watch the three videos below.  Then, you'll work in a group to compare Confucianism, Daoism, & Buddhism.  After a brief discussion, we'll begin our exploration of Japan with a close reading assignment on Shintoism and nationalism in contemporary Japan.

Homework:
  • Thursday, November 12 - Meiji Restoration fishbowl discussion (see explanation on Schoology) - participant reflection and discussion questions posted to Schoology BEFORE class
  • Thursday, November 12 - Unit 5 PDCs due on class blog
  • Friday, November 13 - Chapter 11 reading quiz
  • Monday, November 16 - "Top 10 Things to Know About Korea" & documentary discussion - post reflection BEFORE class
  • Tuesday, November 17 - Unit 5 Test
  • Tuesday, November 17 - Unit 5 SJSs due on class blog
