HWC Day 12 - Imperialism & Historical Epistemology

Objectives:   Consider "modern," "nation," and "race" as social constructs.  Identify justifications for and implications of imperialism in the 19th & 20th centuries.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please get out your i-Pad and read about Benedict Anderson's "imagined communities" and "If You Shouldn't Call It The Third World, What Should You Call It?" (NPR, 1/4/15).  We'll take these ideas to examine social constructs.  Then, we'll divide into groups to explore imperialism.  Finally, you'll use the last portion of class to explore examples of globalization.
