Objective: Discuss the characteristics of culture. Establish a basis for studying culture.
Task: Good morning! I hope you all had wonderful holiday weekend. When you arrive to class, please use your i-Pad to look up and record the definitions for the following terms:
- Mores
- Taboos
- Enculturation
- Acculturation
- Diffusion
- Interdependence
- Ethnocentrism
After everyone's had the opportunity to look up the terms, we'll play a short game to review content from last week. Then, we'll return to our seats to take notes on the elements of culture. As always, you may either write out your own notes or use the guided notes provided on Schoology. Finally, you'll work in small groups to examine and explain the ways in which culture is demonstrated on a poster from the "Material World" series.
Homework:
- Thursday, September 10 - Narrative, drawing, or captioned photograph detailing 7 elements of culture submitted to Schoology dropbox by 3:00 pm
- Monday, September 14 - Unit 1 Quiz (Themes of Geography, Characteristics of Culture, Elements of Culture, Cultural Regions Map)
