CPWC Day 55 - Inside North Korea

REMINDER:  NHS food drive for the New Jerusalem Food Bank runs until December 20. Please consider donating to this worthy cause.

UNICEF members will be collecting donations for typhoon Haiyan relief efforts during all lunches this week.

Objective:  Evaluate the role of Korea in world history.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please get out your laptop and go to Socrative and join classroom 743692.  We'll spend a few minutes reviewing key ideas about Japan and Korea before discussing    "Top Ten Things to Know About Korea."  Finally, we'll examine totalitarianism in North Korea with Inside North Korea.

Essay Details & Options:
Use the background reading, your knowledge from class discussions, and the documents to construct a 3-5 paragraph essay answering ONE of the questions below.
  • Compare Japan and China in terms of their overall attitudes toward the West.
  • Describe the factors that best help explain the differences between China and Japan in the way they responded to the West.

Homework:
  • Monday, November 18 - Unit 5 Test (includes East Asia map)
  • Tuesday, November 19 - China & Japan essay due at BEGINNING of class
  • Friday, December 6 - Kundun & Silk Road extra credit due
