CPWC Day 79 - Latin America in the 20th Century

Objective:  Consider the course and implications of the rule of General Pinochet in Chile.  Investigate changes and developments in 20th century Latin America.


Task:  Buenos dias!  When you arrive to class, please complete "Colonies & Independent States" (the 3rd & 4th pages of "Spanish Towns in the Americas."  While you work through the map, I'll finish checking your homework.  Then, we'll discuss Pinochet in Chile as an example of the military strongmen that rose to power in the early-mid twentieth century.  Finally, we'll wrap up class with a reading on Latin America at the end of the twentieth century.

Homework Reminders:
  • TODAY  - Cumulative map quiz (includes all countries and capitals studied this semester)
  • Friday, January 15 - Unit 8 reading quiz (9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 11.1, & 11.2)
  • Tuesday, January 19 - LAST day to complete missing work/assignments
  • Wednesday, January 20 - CPWC pd. 3-4 Final Exam at 11:15 am
  • Thursday, January 21 - CPWCC pd. 6-9 Final Exam at 7:35 am

Use one or more of the news sources below to find recent news articles relating to topics we've studied in quarter 2.  Create citations and annotations in NoodleTools.  The annotation MUST include a summary AND an explanation of how the article relates to our studies.  Share your work with the "CPWC Quarter 2 Extra Credit" dropbox.

Each citation/annotation is worth up to 5 points and you may complete up to 3 per unit (East Asia; South Asia; Southeast Asia, Australia, & Oceania; Latin America & Caribbean).
