WHAP Day 1 - Defining History

Day 1 - PAW 1

"History cannot give us a program for the future, but it can give us a fuller understanding of ourselves, and of our common humanity, so that we can better face the future."
~Robert Penn Warren

Welcome to Advanced Placement World History!  I am so excited for you to explore our world in this college level history course.  In order to be successful in this class, it is essential that you diligently and consistently attend to your course work.  Further, if you wish to perform well on the AP exam in May, you should review your materials on a regular basis.  My goal is for you to develop strong historical thinking skills that will benefit you well beyond this course.  Although we have the new PAW period to extend our class time together, I encourage you to make an appointment to meet with me before school, during lunch, during remediation, or after-school if you find you need extra support.

Objectives:  Use analysis and inference to identify, explain, and organize images of technological advances.  Define "history."

Task:  Greetings!  When you arrive to class, please take a card from Mrs. Friday and find a seat. Today, as we begin our journey through time and space, you'll work in small groups to analyze and organize significant technological developments ("Photo Inquiry: Technology").  We'll also review the meaning and process of studying history.  Finally, I'll collect your pre-requisite work and review upcoming due dates and assignments.
