CPWC Day 64 - Contemporary Issues In South Asia

Objective:  Appraise the various manners in which tradition and modernization interact.

Task:  After you've recorded the daily objective, please get out a pencil and your reading notes in preparation for the chapter 24 reading quiz.     When you finish with the quiz, get out your computer and complete parts I and II of the "Taliban Investigation."  Once everyone has finished the quiz, we'll review the homework and finish taking notes on the history of South Asia.  Finally, you'll use any time remaining to work on "Green Revolution" reading and questions.

Homework:
  • Monday, December 17 - "Green Revolution" reading questions
  • Tuesday, December 18 - Unit 6 Test (study guide posted to Moodle)
  • Wednesday, January 2 - Kundun & Gandhi extra credit due
Resources:
  • "Children of the Taliban" (produced by Frontline/World, 4/14/2009) A reporter travels through Pakistan's tribal areas to investigate Taliban recruitment of children and the prohibition of girls education.
  • "Malala's Journey from Near Death to Recovery" A 15-year-old Pakistani girl was shot in the head on her way home from school in October.  Targeted by the Taliban because of her outspoken support of education for girls, Malala's plight drew worldwide attention.  This collection of videos and news stories chronicles her story.
