HWC Day 3 - GGS Quiz & Critical Thinking

Objectives: Assess knowledge and understanding of GGS.  Define history and the social sciences as they will be used in HWC.  Collaborate in a Web2.0 environment to create an informative presentation.

Task:  We'll begin class with your Guns, Germs, & Steel reading quiz.  You will have a 40 minute time limit which includes a 10 minute window with your reading notes.  When finished, please turn it in to Mrs. Friday and get out your Primer to work on your notes for your group project.

As we begin our first collaborative project, we will take advantage of this opportunity to discuss the differences between collaboration, cooperation, and copying.  Further, we'll spend some time examining the process of critical thinking.  We'll also define and identify the steps for 'critical thinking.'

Finally, we'll end class with a review of your textbook and a discussion on how to prepare for reading quizzes.

Homework:
  • Thursday, August 29 - Binder with at least 10 dividers
  • Thursday, August 29 - Individual Primer notes due in class
  • Thursday, August 29 - Watch critical thinking video (below)
  • Tuesday, September 3 - Primer storyboard AND script due by 7:00 am
  • Thursday, September 5 - G&D Chapter 1 reading quiz (reading notes on paper my be used on quiz)
