HWC Day 25 - Imperialism, Independence, & Conflict

Objectives:  Investigate Ottoman rule from the 13th to the 20th centuries.  Trace historical developments in Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Central Asia.  Examine the emergence and course of nationalism in the Middle East.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please get out your "Perspectives" charts, part IV of the Regional Study, and a blank piece of paper. You'll have the first 15 minutes of class to answer the following question:
  1. What did you learn about history and history textbooks from this activity?
  2. What did you learn about the history of the Middle East?
Be sure to provide at least 3 specific examples from the charts for each question to demonstrate your understanding and completion of the assignment.

Next, we'll listen to an audio clip about the Sunni-Shia divide before playing a game of Kahoot to review monotheism.

Finally, we'll finish our examination of the Ottoman empire with a discussion of the "Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" lyrics and analysis of political cartoons.
