HWC Day 35 - Unit 3 Wrap-Up

Objective:  Identify the most significant events in the Arab-Israeli conflict.  Consider the complicated role of women in Islam.  Discuss the competition and tensions between Iran & Saudi Arabia.  Evaluate economic & environmental issues in Transcaucasia & Central Asia.

Task:    Good afternoon!  As you can see from our list of objectives above, we have a lot to accomplish today.  We'll begin class with a brief discussion on the Arab-Israeli and the Israeli-Palestinian conflicts.  Then, we'll  divide into two groups - one group will present the main points from the Iran-Saudi Arabia study and the other group will present the main points about women in Islam.  Finally, we'll end class with a brief examination of select issues in Transcaucasia & Central Asia.

HWC Day 28 - Geography & Monotheism

Objectives:   Examine the impact of geography on the history, culture, and development of North Africa, Southwest Asia, Central Asia, & Transcaucasia.

Task:  Hujumbo! When you arrive to class, please pick up a card from the front of the room. You'll work with a group to investigate the unique the unique geographic features of North Africa, Southwest Asia, Transcaucasia, & Central Asia. Please use Notability to create an annotated collage detailing the most important information in the section.

Soc Day 28 - Who are the "working poor"?

Objective:  Define stratification as a sociological concept.

Task:  Good morning!  When you arrive to class, please open up your unit 2 notes.  We'll spend the first few minutes of class defining the underclass and working poor.  Then, we'll discuss the arguments and evidence presented by Barbara Ehrenreich's "Nickel & Dimed."  Finally, we'll end class with the "Songs of Stratification" presentations.

West Civ Day 26 - Italian City-States

Objective:  Identify the political, cultural, social, & economic factors that led to the emergence of the Renaissance in the Italian city-states.

Task:  Good day!  Well met!  When you arrive to class, please complete the Renaissance Art 3-2-1 discussion.  Then, our goal for the day is to wrap-up our Italian city-states presentations. As we finish up, make sure to fill in your notes on your sheet.

CPWC Day 28 - Geography & Monotheism Review

Objectives:  Examine the emergence of monotheism in Southwest Asia.

Task:  Good morning!  When you arrive to class, please upload your homework to the appropriate drop boxes in Schoology.   Then, open up your geography summary sheets.  We'll spend the first portion of class completing a crossword puzzle to review essential concepts from the packet.   After you've completed the crossword, please work on the "DBQ - Islamic Civilization."

We'll spend the next portion of class reviewing "Heirs of Abraham" and creating a flow chart to show the similarities and differences in the creation stories of Judaism, Christianity, & Islam.    Finally, if there is any time remaining, we'll begin exploring the historical division of Sunni & Shia Islam.

Objective:  Assess knowledge and understanding of the geography, history, culture, and contemporary issues of Sub-Saharan Africa.

Task:  Good morning!  When you arrive to class, please test your knowledge of the unit 3 map with "Think You Know the Middle East?"  Then, watch and take notes on "Zoroastrianism."  You'll also read "Heirs of Abraham" and the Five Pillars.  Be sure you read carefully - you'll complete an activity to test your knowledge in class tomorrow!
