CPWC Day 57 - East Asia Test

Day 3 - PAW 3

Objective:  Assess knowledge and understanding of the geography, history, and culture of East Asia.

Task:  Good afternoon!  When you arrive to class, please clear your desks of everything except a pencil in preparation for the test.  You'll have the entire class to complete the test but must complete the test before leaving this classroom.  After you've finished the test, please turn it in at the back of the room and begin working on the "South Asia Preview."

Objective:  Identify cultural and historical trends that unify East Asia.  Review essential content in preparation for the unit test.

Task:  Good afternoon!  When you arrive to class, please open up a blank document and create a visual to show cultural and historical trends in East Asia.  After a brief discussion, we'll finish our unit with a game of Jeopardy.

Objective:   Examine select historical developments in Japan.  Identify the religious and philosophical traditions that influenced Japan.

Task:  Good morning!  When you arrive to class, please open your notes on the religions and philosophies of East Asia.  I'll provide some brief information on Shintoism and Zen Buddhism.  Then, you'll find a partner and compare your analysis of the Rescript on Education.  Finally, we'll finish our notes on Japan.

Objective:  Compare the governments, economies, and societies of Japan, China, North Korea, and South Korea.

Objective:  Explore select developments in the history of China since 1911.  Identify the political and economic status of China in 2018.

Task:  Good afternoon!  When you arrive to class, please find your seat so I can quickly take attendance.  Then, you'll find a partner and a whiteboard for a quick review of China before we delve into the contemporary status of the world's most populous state.  Specifically, you'll read an article or watch a news clip on the recent constitutional changes that have solidified Xi Jinping's role as head of party (and state).

CPWC Day 47 - Religions & Philosophies of East Asia

Day 3 - PAW 3

Objective:  Describe significant contributions of the Silk Road.  Compare and contrast the religions of China (Daoism, Confucianism, Buddhism).

Task:  Good afternoon!  When you arrive to class, please clear your desk of everything except for a pen or pencil and your i-Pad with "Exploring the Silk Road" on the screen.  You'll spend the first few minutes of class completing a short comprehension check.

After you finish, please turn in your paper at the back of the room and download "Comparing Religious Traditions in China" (in the Religions & Philosophies of East Asia folder).  Use your viewing notes to begin filling in the diagram.  When everyone has completed the Silk Road check, we'll review your comparison before delving into the Mandate of Heaven and Legalism.

Finally, we'll use the last portion of class to begin working on "Condensed History of China" (in the "History of East Asia" folder).  This assignment is due on Monday!

CPWC Day 57 - Totalitarianism in East Asia

Objective:  Review the culture, history, and geography of Korea.  Compare totalitarianism in China and North Korea

Task:   Annyeonghaseyo!  When you arrive to class, please open up "Chinese Revolutions."  We'll spend the first portion of class wrapping up our examination of communism in China.  Then, we'll create a Venn diagram to compare China and North Korea.  Finally, if there is any time remaining, we'll begin our examination of Japan with a brief overview on the geography and religious traditions of the island state.
