Objectives: Evaluate the factors that enabled European overseas exploration in the early modern era.
Task: Greetings! When you arrive to class, please grab a whiteboard and answer the following questions:
Homework Due Dates:- What physical and cultural barriers might an individual face while planning and engaging on a long-distance sea voyage in the second half of the fifteenth century?
- What types of individuals and institutions engaged in long-distance sea voyages in the second half of the fifteenth century?
- What was happening in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas during the second half of the fifteenth century?
After a brief discussion, we'll work in small groups to organize and evaluate the maps in hand-out 1.2. Specifically, you'll look for familiar locales on the maps, identify changes in geographic representation, and describe the historical context of the various maps.
