Objective: Identify and utilize library resources that will be necessary in HWC.
Task: At the beginning of class, you'll submit "Why Are Maps Important?" Then, you'll head down to the library where Miss Ziemba will review resources and tools that will be used in CPWC. While at the library, you'll begin working on your "Foundations Investigation."
As you complete the "Foundations Investigation" please consider:
- All work should be your OWN - this is NOT a collaborative activity and answers should be provided in your own words!
- Be sure to read and follow directions. If anything is unclear, ask or e-mail Mrs. Friday.
- You must use a PRINT copy of History Today or Current History to complete question 25 and PRINT copy of The Economist, Time, Newsweek, US News & World Report, or The New York Times for question 26 . It may be useful to complete these questions in class OR to check out the periodicals to work on at home.

Objectives: Assess knowledge and understanding of Guns, Germs, & Steel. Identify and utilize library resources that will be necessary in HWC.
Task: At the beginning of the class, you'll take your quiz on GGS. You will have 30 minute time limit to complete this quiz, with a 10 minute window to use your reading notes. After the quiz, you will go to the library as a class where Miss Ziemba will review useful library resources and provide useful search techniques for the Internet.
As you complete the "Foundations Investigation" please consider:

- Use your Globalization & Diversity textbooks to identify the cultural regions for part II.

Objective: Identify, explain, and begin using GoogleApps that will be used in CPWC. Explore and analyze the types and uses of map projections.
Task: As you are writing out the daily objectives in your notebook, I'll collect your cultural regions lists and any parent information sheets. Throughout the course, you will need to use several different Web2.0 applications to complete assignments. You've already joined the class Moodle and today we'll begin to build your "tech toolbox" by accessing your district provided GoogleApps account. Specifically, you'll set up your e-mail account and your GoogleReader. I will also provide you with your username and password to access the on-line textbook at http://my.hrw.com/
For the remainder of class, you'll work on "Why Are Maps Important? Understanding & Reading Maps." To complete this activity, you'll need to use the links on the Moodle.

Objectives: Identify, explain, and begin using Web2.0 applications that will be used in HWC. Define history and the social sciences as they will be used in HWC.
Task: We're going to give our technology another try this morning and begin building our Web2.0 "toolbox." Today, each of you will join Diigo (http://www.diigo.com/) and the "SVHS HWC Fall 12" Diigo group. As a class, we'll tag and annotate our first source in the "SVHS HWC Fall 2012" Diigo group. Each of you will also set up a GoogleCalendar and a personalized GoogleReader to follow current events and this blog. I'll also show you how to use GoogleDocs and SlideRocket.
Finally, I'll be introducing your first collaborative project. Although GGS provides a common foundation for our understanding of history and culture, we need to establish a vocabulary from history and the social sciences to study world cultures. To do this, you'll participate in a jigsaw activity. To complete this project, you'll read and take notes on a chapter from A Civilization Primer and work with your group to create a unique, engaging presentation that explains the main ideas and vocabulary.
