CPWC Day 3 - Mapping Our World

Objective:  Consider the concepts addressed in chapter 1, section 1 of the text.  Identify and label oceans, continents, and cultural regions on a world map.

Task: When you arrive to class, please get out your chapter 1, section 1 reading notes.  I will answer any questions before you take a brief quiz on the content in Schoology.  After everyone has finished the quiz, we'll complete the "Lines of Latitude & Longitude" worksheet together in class.  Then, we'll spend the remainder of class labeling and coloring the major cultural regions on a world map.

Homework:
  • TODAY - Parent Information (GoogleForm via Schoology) and email to Mrs. Friday due by 3:00
  • Wednesday, September 2 - Geography chapter 1, section 1 reading notes due in class

HWC Day 3 - Using The Library

Objectives:  Identify and utilize library resources necessary for HWC.  Select PDP, PDC, and SJS assignments for quarter 1.

Task:  Today we'll spend most of our class-time in the library reviewing tools and sources that will be useful in HWC.  However, before we head down to the library, I'll explain the Primary Document Posts, Primary Document Comments, and Scholarly Journal Summaries that you'll complete throughout the duration of the course.  You'll post these assignments to our class blog.  Further, the rubrics and PDFs/links of the primary documents are posted in Schoology in the "HWC Primary Documents" folder.  Further, I've shared the Spreadsheet, "HWC Primary Document & Scholarly Journal Analysis - Fall '15" with you via GoogleDrive.

CPWC Day 2 - What Do You Know About Geography?

Objective:  Assess existing knowledge of culture and geography.  Identify continents, countries, seas, oceans, and other geographic features.

Task:  Welcome back to the second day of World Cultures class!  Today we'll begin class with a discussion about our activity from yesterday.  Then,  you'll complete a  pre-test on Schoology.  This is NOT a graded assignment.  However, this will help me to taylor activities to your needs - please do your best!   After you've finished the pre-test, please read and respond to "The World Upside-Down."  Finally, we'll spend the last portion of class working on "Latitudes and Longitudes."

HWC Day 2 - Critical Thinking, Collaboration, & GGS

Objectives:  Identify the characteristics of collaboration and a critical thinker.  Analyze and critique the arguments presented in Guns, Germs, & Steel.

Task:  Good morning!  When you arrive to class, please get out your i-Pad and DRAW the characteristics of a critical thinker.  We'll spend the first portion of class discussing the process of critical thinking.  Then, we'll extend our examination to consider the definition of collaboration in the classroom.  Next, I'll assign and explain your first group project.

Finally, we'll spend the last portion of class in a discussion of Guns, Germs, & Steel.
