HWC1.2 Day 8 - Social Sciences, Periodization, & Globalization

Objectives:  Define history and the social sciences as they will be used in HWC.  Trace the development of man from the emergence of civilization to the 21st century.  Investigate development, globalization, and interdependence in the contemporary world.

Task:  Today, we'll divide the class into three distinct sections: presentations, notes, and stations.  To start class, we'll watch the Primer presentations.  Then, we'll continue notes on periodization in history.  Finally, we'll spend the last 40 minutes of class working on the globalization stations.

Homework:

• TODAY - Completed SlideRocket presentations due by 3:30 (bonus points for presentations ready at the beginning of class)
• Tuesday, February 5 - Globalization & Development stations work due

HWC10.11 Day 8 - Periodization & Globalization

Objectives:  Assess knowledge and understanding of Primer vocabulary.  Trace the development of humanity from the origins of man to the 21st century.  Investigate development, globalization, and interdependence in the contemporary world.

Task:  We'll spend the first 20 minutes of class taking the Primer vocabulary quiz.  If you finish the quiz early, please work on the imperialism packets due Tuesday.  Next, we'll take notes on the origins of man by watching a video from renowned anthropologist, Don Johanson, and begin our examination of periodization in history.

Next, we'll get into groups to work on two (of four) stations on globalization.  The links for stations #2 and #4 can be located on the Moodle, the HWC 12-13 Diigo group, and below the homework reminders on this post.

WestCiv Day 8 - Origins Test

Objectives:  Assess knowledge and understanding of early European history and culture.

Task:  To start class, you'll sign out Aspects, Vol. 2 and we'll have the document draft for the next two units.  You'll use the remainder of class to complete the unit 1 test.  You may use your notebook for the test but must finish the test by the end of class.

 Homework:

• Monday, February 4 - Part III of Unit 1 Test due at beginning of class
• Monday, February 4 - "Using Library Tools" due by 3.00

HWC1.2 Day 7 - Collaboration

Objectives:  Define history and the social sciences as they will be utilized in HWC.  Collaborate in a Web2.0 environment to create an informative presentation.

Task:  As we wrap up the second week of class, you'll continue working on your Primer presentation.  As you work, please keep the following points in mind:

1. Although you will all have access to the SlideRocket presentation, only one person can edit at a time.
2. The purpose of the presentation is to help your classmates understand the main ideas of your assigned section.
3. The presentation must be at least 3 minutes and no more than 4 minutes in length.
4. Be sure that you double check the rubric for grading criteria.

We'll use the last few minutes of class to review the GGS reading comprehension quiz.
