HWC1.2 Day 38B - FCP Video Creation

Objective:   Create a multimedia video that communicates with a general audience a theme from the FCP.  To actively share original content about the topics being researched and analyzed.

Task:  Since we've wrapped up the wiki collaboration, its now time to move on to the video creation portion of the project.  For the second phase of the Flat Classroom Project, each of you will create a 2 to 5 minute video that will include an outsourced clip from a student in another school.

Step 1 - Building Your Story:  Go to your topic page of the FCP wiki and scroll down to the "Video Artifacts" section.  Click on your assigned video category to learn more about your assignment (see below).  Construct a detailed storyboard and script that addresses the topic from Dan Pink (see our VoiceThread) and the flattener from Tom Friedman.  You can find more Use either the presentation app in Google or the following paper format to create your storyboard: http://saucontechhelp.wikispaces.com/file/view/blankstoryboard.pdf  As you construct your story, consider the specifications for the video: http://helps.flatclassroomproject.org/Video+Specifications#Copyright%20and%20Citations-Video%20Number%20Specifications

Step 2 - Outsourcing At this point, you simply need to have a good, overall idea of what your video will be about.  Once you have this figured out, you will need to fill out an outsource request clip at http://fcp13-1.flatclassroomproject.org/Outsourced+Team+B (requests due on Wednesday, April 3).  The next step will require you to submit an outsource clip to someone else and to create a storyboard for your video (links to finished outsource clips due on Monday, April 15)  Please watch the video below for detailed instructions on how to begin conceptualizing your video and on how to post an outsource clip request.

Step 3 - Tool Selection: Choose a tool to create your video. You might consider I-movie, Windows MediaMaker, or SlideRocket.  If you choose SlideRocket, you will have a couple of extra steps to make your presentation into a video.

Step 4 - Video Creation:  Create your video following the Flat Classroom video specifications and be sure to cite ALL resources used in your video.   A description of video specifications and citation expectations can be found at: http://helps.flatclassroomproject.org/Video+Specifications#Copyright%20and%20Citations-Video%20Number%20Specifications

HWC10.11 Day 35B - NetGenEd Wiki Instructions

This phase of the NetGenEd Project requires you to collaborate with other students to create an on-line artifact explaining one aspect of the 2013 Horizon Report and the trends characterizing the "Net Generation."   It is essential to add accurate information and to cite your sources both within your text and with formal citations in the proper section.  Further, it is important that you communicate effectively with your team members and that you pay attention to details.  Remember, a high-quality product requires participation and high-quality contributions from all team members!

How to Edit the NetGenEd 2013 Wiki:
IMPORTANT:  ANY edit must be "Saved with Comment."  Further, EVERY edit to the wiki MUST be accompanied by a post & explanation on the discussion threads.

1.  Go to NetGenEd 2013 and sign in.  Read through the "Welcome" on the homepage.

2.  Identify your placement on the Team Grid

3.  Click on your group topic.  Read the explanation of your topic and category assignment.

4.  Then, once you're on your topic page,  scroll down to the bottom of your topic page and add your name to the team list.  Link your name to your personal FCP Ning page.
5. Go to your category(1-8) and read the topic assignment (in italics).  When you are ready to contribute to the wiki, you will click on "edit" for your subtopic and post your research BELOW the italics in your category.  For EVERY post that is made, you MUST "Save with Comment" and BRIEFLY explain (1 sentence) the change you made to the wiki.  Then, you MUST go to the discussion thread for your CATEGORY and explain what you've done, why you've done it, and what questions you have.  If you are still confused, the following video on wiki editing procedures may be useful: http://helps.flatclassroomproject.org/home
Wiki editing step 5A

Wiki editing step 5B
Wiki editing step 5C

Wiki editing step 5D
6.  Be sure to cite all information that you post to the wiki.  Follow the citation instructions of the Project Help wiki.  I will be checking the wiki history and your work on the wiki will be evaluated according to the provided rubric.

HWC10.11 Day 35 - NetGenEd & Europe Geography

Objectives:  Navigate the NetGenEd2013 wiki to facilitate collaboration.  Identify and label countries, cities, geographic features, and bodies of water in Europe.

Task:  After 7 months of reading and preparation, we are FINALLY starting work on the NetGenEd project today!  We've paved the way by joining the community wiki and establishing a presence on the Flat Classroom Ning, now its time to begin research and collaboration.  First, you need to adjust your username on the NetGenEd wiki.

Next, we'll go over the wiki checklist and I'll "walk" you through the wiki (see also NetGenEd Wiki Instructions).  Complete the following tasks before computers are stowed away:
  1. Add your name to the team members list at the bottom of your topic page.  Link your name to your page on the FCP ning.
  2. On the discussion thread,  leave a message on the wiki discussion tab for your partners about what you think your topic is about and any comments on things you think your group should consider.
  3. On the FCP Ning: a) "friend" your student leaders and all members of your team, b) "friend" and comment to the handshakes of the other members in your box on the grid.
  4. On the FCP Ning: create a NetGenEd handshake blog post.  Introduce yourself.  What topic will you be studying? (explain in simple terms and include 2 hyperlinks) How do you plan to approach this project?  What do you hope to contribute to this project?
Use the NetGenEd Diigo group and the current events posts from your summer reading assignment to help you get started on your research.  When adding your own sources to the FCP Diigo group, be sure annotate and to follow the project tagging standards.  Over the next week, we are going to be spending 15 minutes of every class working on the wiki.  However, you should also be checking the discussion thread, gathering research, and adding to the wiki at least one other time each day.  Your grade will be based upon both the quality and quantity of your contributions (see provided rubric).

Finally, we'll spend the remainder of class taking notes on the geography and culture of Europe.
