CPWC Day 70.5 - Map Quiz & Insular Empire

Objective:   Assess knowledge of the geography of Southeast Asia, Australia, & Oceania.  Investigate America's role in the Northern Mariana Islands.

Task:  Good morning!  When you arrive to class, please clear your desk of everything except for a pencil in preparation for your map quiz.  You'll spend the first portion of class completing the map quiz.  Then, we'll investigate American imperialism in the Pacific with a documentary and video guide on the Northern Mariana Islands.

HWC Day 70 - American Imperialism?

Objectives:   Analyze the impact of American influence in Guam, the Northern Marianas, and American Samoa.

Task:  Good morning!  Today we'll focus on the role of the United States in the Pacific.  Specifically, you'll watch "Insular Empire" and consider the status of Northern Mariana Islanders.  Also, we'll compare the Northern Marianas to American Samoa.  Finally, if time remains, you'll have the opportunity to submit the final draft of your essay.

Homework:
  • TODAY - Final draft (in PDF) due in Schoology by 3:00 pm
    • 5 bonus points if you turn in a works cited signed by Mrs. Sams

CPWC Day 69.5 - Exploring Australia & Oceania

Objective:   Investigate the cultural heritage and contemporary issues of Australia & Oceania.

Task:  Happy Monday!  We'll begin class with a short review game to prepare for tomorrow's map quiz.  Then, you'll explore the Commonwealth, Oceania, and Australia.

HWC Day 69 - Exploring Australia & Oceania

Objectives:   Identify unique geographic, historical, and cultural characteristics of Australia & Oceania.

Task:  Happy Monday!  Today, we'll focus on the culture and heritage of Oceania and Australia.  When you arrive to class, you'll be assigned to one of three topics: The Polynesians, New Zealand & the Maoris, or Australia & the Aborigines.  You'll spend the first portion of class completing the activities regarding your topic and reading "Easter's End."  Then, you'll meet with others who looked at the same topic to create a summary for the rest of the class. Finally, we'll end class with an examination of the impact of rising sea levels in Tuvalu.

Homework:
