West Civ Day 20 - Exploration & Absolutism

Objectives:  Identify factors that led to the emergence of modern nation-states.  Research and create a presentation on an absolutist family or the Thirty Years War.

Task: We'll spend the first few minutes discussing the Age of Exploration.  Then, you'll have the remainder of class to work on your absolutism project.

CPWC Day 64 - Green Revolution & Taliban

Objective:  Examine the religious and philosophical traditions of South Asia.  Investigate select historical events to define the cultural heritage of South Asia.  Analyze contemporary issues in South Asia.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please pick up the Green Revolution packet at the front of the room.  Read the packet and answer the questions.   After we review the packet, we'll watch the "Seeds of Suicide" and discuss the impact of the Green Revolution on social development.  Finally, we'll spend the last portion of class examining the Taliban.

HWC Day 59 - Green Revolution & Caste in South Asia

Objectives:  Evaluate the historical developments of South Asia.  Analyze the religious, social, and cultural implications of caste membership in India.

Task:  Today, we'll begin class with a short quiz to check your knowledge of Partition.  Then, we'll consider Gandhi's methods and  his appeal.  Finally, we'll begin our examination of contemporary issues in South Asia.

Homework:
  • TODAY - R&R current events sources (from at least 3 different, international news sources) annotated and ADDED to "HWC Spring 15 R&R" NoodleTools dropbox (Please begin each current events annotation with CE)
  • Friday, May 8 - Unit 6 Test
  • Monday, May 11 - Kundun Extra Credit submitted to Moodle by 3:00 pm
Grading Criteria for R&R Current Events
The next step in your R&R project is to collect and annotate news stories about your topic from a variety of international sources.  This assignment is worth 30 points and the points will be awarded as follows:
  • Variety of Sources (10 points) - You should gather news stories from multiple international news agencies, including at least one non-western news source.
  • Number of Articles (10 points) - You need a number of news articles from each source.  This will make it possible for you to identify bias and point-of-view when you analyze the news stories.
  • Quality of Articles (5 points) - Your articles should address your historical question and relate to the background information already gathered.
  • Format (5 points) - Each citation includes appropriate information and every current events annotations begins with CE (for current events).
