CPWC Day 43 - Absolutism & Revolution

Objective:  Explore the Age of Absolutism in Europe.  Identify the causes of the French Revolution.

CPWC Day 32 - Armenian Genocide & Middle East History

Objective: Describe the significance of select events in the history of the Middle East. Identify the causes, course, and results of the Armenian genocide.

Task: Good morning!  When you arrive to class, please open up your "Armenian Genocide Viewing Guide."  We'll spend the first portion of class completing the documentary.  Then, we'll finish our notes on the history of the region.  Finally, if there is time remaining, you'll work on "Considering Contemporary Issues in the Middle East."

Objective: Review the similarities and differences between Sunni & Shia Islam.  Describe the significance of select events in the history of the Middle East.

Purpose:  Establish a timeline of significant events in the history of the Middle East.  Consider the role of Orientalism in the historiography of the Middle East.

Why is it important to consider Orientalism when examining the history and historiography of the Middle East?
After a brief discussion, you'll take the reading quiz on "The Roots of Muslim Rage."  When you've completed the quiz, please turn it in at the back of the room and begin working through "Ottoman Empire Cartoon Analysis."  We'll play a quick Kahoot! to review monotheism.  Finally, we'll spend the remainder of class discussing the history of the region.

Objective:  Examine the similarities and differences between Judaism, Christianity, & Islam.  Investigate the similarities and differences between Sunni & Shia Islam.

CPWC Day 25 - Geography of N. Africa, SW Asia, Central Asia, & Transcaucasia

Objective:  Identify the geographic and cultural characteristics that define the Arab World.

Task: Marhabaan!  When you arrive to class, please upload your 22.1 reading notes and the Southwest Asia map to the appropriate dropboxes in Schoology.  Then, download "Nile Valley WS" and "CPWC Unit 3 Geography Summary Sheets" from the Unit 3 - Geography Resources folder in Schoology.  

First, you'll complete and we'll discuss the Nile Valley.  Then, you'll use "CPWC Unit 3 Geography Information" (in the Geography Resources folder) to fill out the "Geography Summary Sheets."  These sheets must be completed in class today - you will not be provided any more class time to work on this task.  Later on in the week, you'll use these sheets to complete a review activity.

Objective:  Examine the impact of geography on the history, culture, & development of North Africa, Southwest Asia, Central Asia, & Transcaucasia.

Task:  When you arrive to class, please get out your I-pads and play "Things in the Middle East" After you've reviewed the Middle East map, you'll split into groups to investigate the unique geographic features of North Africa & Southwest Asia and Central Asia & Transcaucasia.  Please create an annotated collage to summarize the main points of your assigned section:

  2. SW Asia & N. Africa - Cultural Coherence & Diversity, Geopolitical Framework, and Economic Development (pp. 200-216)

  4. Central Asia - Cultural Coherence & Diversity, Geopolitical Framework, and Economic & Social Development (pp. 294-305)
One person from each group should email the file/link to Mrs. Friday by 8:55 am.

Finally, download the "Abrahamic Religions - Semitic Roots" note sheet from the Monotheistic Religions folder.  Use the last portion of class to fill in the Venn diagram as a  review the "Heirs of Abraham" reading.
