CPWC Day 41 - French Revolution


Objectives: Investigate the political and social revolutions that emerged beginning in the mid-eighteenth century.

Task:   After you've recorded the daily objective, please get out your extra credit work, your reading notes, and a pencil.  Clear everything else off of your desk in preparation for the reading quiz.  Please turn in the quiz when you've finished and work QUIETLY on your midterm exam study guide.

After the quiz, we'll spend a bit of time reviewing the "Absolutism and Democracy" DBQ.  Be sure that you check and correct your answers.

Next, you'll join three other people to prepare for the French Revolution video guide.  Each person in your group will complete one of the tasks below:

  1. Vocabulary
  2. Odd numbered questions
  3. Even numbered questions
  4. Timeline
Listen to the video carefully and be sure to complete your assigned section.  At the end of the video, you'll share your work.  Finally, you'll post a reflection to the "French Revolution Reflection" on the Moodle.

If there is any time remaining at the end of class, please work on your midterm exam study guide.  Please e-mail me with any questions that arise as you study.

Extra Credit Opportunity (up to 20 points):  Watch and take notes on Monday's presidential debate on foreign policy.  Then, type a one-to-two page reflection on the issues discussed in the debate.  Be sure to include your opinion on the issues in your reflection.

HWC Day 41 - Revolution


Objectives:  Investigate the political and social revolutions that emerged in Europe beginning in the mid-eighteenth century.

Task:  After you've recorded the daily objective, we'll spend a few minutes reviewing the "Who's Who?" worksheet.   Next, you'll work in groups of four to complete a video guide on the French Revolution.  Each person in the group will complete one of the following tasks while watching the video:

  1. Vocabulary
  2. Odd numbered questions
  3. Even numbered questions
  4. Timeline
When the video is over, you'll work with your group to complete the video guide and post to the "French Revolution Reflection" on the Moodle.

Next, you'll read an article about the Industrial Revolution and play a game (both linked on the Moodle) to see how well you would have faired as a cotton entrepreneur.  

If there is any time remaining at the end of class, please work on the Flat Classroom Project or on your mid-term exam study guide.

Please use the "Mid-Term Study Group Forum" on the Moodle or e-mail me with any questions that arise while you study.

CPWC Day 40 - Absolutism & Revolution

Objectives:  Investigate the political and social revolutions that emerged in Europe beginning in the mid-eighteenth century.

Task:   After you've recorded the daily objective, please clear your desk of everything except a pen or pencil.  We'll spend the beginning of class completing the map quiz.  When you've finished the quiz, please turn it in to the front of the room and pick up the "Absolutism and Democracy" DBQ.  Please work on this packet while your waiting for your classmates.  If you finish this early, please get out your textbook and work on your reading notes for chapter 14.  Once everyone has finished the quiz, we'll review the significance of the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, and the Columbian Exchange.  Finally, we'll spend the end of class reviewing the "Absolutism and Democracy" DBQ packet.

Objective:   Investigate the political and social revolutions that emerged in Europe beginning in the mid-eighteenth century.

Task:  After you finish recording the daily objective, please get out your computer and your reading notes.  You will use your reading notes to complete the on-line reading quiz and e-mail your results to yourself AND Mrs. Friday.  While you are quietly waiting for your classmates to finish reviewing the documents distributed yesterday and/or work on FCP.  Next we'll spend some time examining the wars of religion that emerged in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries.  Finally, we'll review our "Who's Who" worksheet and review the Age of Absolutism and Enlightenment.

CPWC Day 39 - Reformation, Absolutism, & Democracy

Objectives:  Identify and label countries, cities, bodies of water, and major geographic features of Europe.  Describe the religious impact of man's changing conception of the universe and his place within it.

Task:   After you've finished recording the daily objective, please pick up the Europe capitals review.  We'll spend the first few minutes of class to review for tomorrow's map quiz.  Next, we'll finish watching The Protestant Reformation video.  Then, we'll spend a few minutes checking the last two sections of the history investigation from Monday.  Finally, we'll spend the remainder of class working on a DBQ examining the competing ideals of absolutism and democracy that emerged during eighteenth century.

CPWC Day 38 - Reformation

Objectives:  Identify and label countries, cities, bodies of water, and major geographic features of Europe.  Describe the religious impact of man's changing conception of the universe and his place within it.

Task:  After you've recorded the daily objective, please get out your materials from the Europe geography stations activity and clear your desks of everything else except a pen or a pencil.  We'll spend the first 20 minutes of class using the stations materials to complete a stations checksheet.  When you've finished the checksheet, please bring your paper up front and pick up the mid-term exam study guide and the Protestant Reformation video guide.  I'll spend a few minutes explaining the format and significance of the mid-term exam.  Finally, the remainder of class will be used to view The Protestant Reformation.

CPWC Day 37 - Renaissance

Objective:  Evaluate the social, cultural, and political changes of Europe between 1400 and 1750. Analyze the process and impact of overseas expansion.

Task: After you've recorded the daily objective, please complete the Chunnel worksheet.  We'll spend a few minutes discussion the significance of the Chunnel before moving on to our examination of the Renaissance.  As a large group, we'll complete the following activities:

CPWC Day 36 - Culture & History

Objective:  Evaluate the social, cultural, and political changes of Europe between 1400 and 1750.

Task: After you've recorded the daily objective, please get out your chapter 12 reading notes for the reading quiz.  When you've finished the quiz, please turn in your quiz and work on your geography station work from yesterday.  After everyone has turned in the quiz, we'll spend a few minutes labeling the former Soviet republics in Europe, Scandinavia, United Kingdom, and the former Yugoslavia. CPWC Day 34B - Rwanda Genocide

NOTE:  Due to PSAT, the period 3-4 CPWC class does not meet today.

Objective:  Evaluate the agency of various groups in the Rwandan genocide.

Task:  Today, we're going to examine the genocide in Rwanda.  We'll start with a brief overview of the recent history of Rwanda.  Then, we'll watch select scenes from the film Hotel Rwanda.  Finally, we'll end class with a discussion on the different forms of collaboration and resistance that emerged during this time.

CPWC Day 34 - Unit 3 Test

Objective:  Assess knowledge and understanding of unit 3 content.

Task:  Today's primary task is to complete the unit 3 test.  Please make sure that you write your name on all portions of the exam and that you check your answers before handing in your test.  When you finish the test, please hand in your work to Mrs. Friday, get your printed grade report, and pick up the Europe maps.  Use the remainder of class to work on your Europe map or begin reading chapter 12 for Friday's reading quiz.

HWC Day 34 - Assessment & FCP DIigo

Objective:  Assess knowledge and understanding of unit 3 content.  Begin bookmarking and tagging to the FCP Diigo group.

Task:   We'll spend the majority class completing the unit 3 test.  For the first part of the test, you'll work alone for 30 minutes.  Then you will have the opportunity to conference with 3 other students for   5 minutes each.  Then, you'll turn in the objective portion of the test and work on the short answer questions. When you've finished and turned in the test, you'll pick up the homework for unit 4.

How to Use Diigo for FCP:
1.  Request to join the FCP Diigo group.  In the comment box, state that you are part of FCP12-2 with Mrs. Friday from SVHS.

2.  Once you are part of Diigo group, you should begin saving relevant sources to the group.  All bookmarks must be tagged AND annotated.  Further, be sure to follow the tagging standards for FCP.  If you need further help, refer to the Diigo help for the project.

CPWC Day 33 - Mid-East Wrap-Up

Objective:  Determine how imperialism, nationalism, and globalization has impacted society, particularly the role of women, throughout Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Central Asia

Task:  After you've recorded our daily objectives, we'll begin a very busy class period. HWC Day 33 - MidEast Wrap-Up & FCP Wiki Instructions


Objectives: Discuss changes and continuities in Middle Eastern societies.  Navigate the FCP12-2 wiki to facilitate collaborative research.

Task: We'll begin class with an introduction to the FCP12-2 wiki (see directions below). Then we'll spend the remainder of class in a discussion circle to wrap up the unit on Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Central Asia.

How to Edit the FCP12-2 Wiki:
IMPORTANT:  ANY edit must be "Saved with Comment."  Further, EVERY edit to the wiki MUST be accompanied by a post & explanation on the discussion threads.  Be sure to make use of the expert advisor and to pay attention to the work of your group members.

1.  Go to FCP12-2 project wiki and sign in.  Read through the "Welcome" on the homepage.

2.  Identify your placement on Team Grid A "Student Teams"

3.  Click on your group topic.  Read the "Overview" of your topic.

4.  Then, once you're on your topic page click on "Team A."   Scroll down to the bottom of your topic page and add your name to the author list.  Link your name to your personal FCP Ning page.

5.  Go to your sub-topic (A-F) and read the topic assignment (in italics).  When you are ready to contribute to the wiki, you will click on "edit" for your subtopic and post your research BELOW the italics in your subtopic.  For EVERY post that is made, you MUST "Save with Comment" and BRIEFLY explain (1 sentence) the change you made to the wiki.  Then, you MUST go to the discussion thread for TOPIC WIKI for your topic and explain what you've done, why you've done it, and what questions you have.  If you are still confused, the following video on wiki editing procedures may be useful: http://projecthelp.wikispaces.com/Wiki+Editing+Tips

Objectives:  Examine the course and international implications of the Arab-Israeli conflict.  Explore the struggles of the Kurds as a stateless people.

CPWC Day 29 - Maps & Sectarianism


Objectives:  Assess knowledge and understanding of North Africa, Southwest Asia, and Central Asia map.  Examine the reasons for and results of the Sunni-Shia split.

Task:   We'll begin class with the map quiz.  When you've finished with the quiz, you will get out your textbook to read and review for tomorrow's reading quiz.  After all students have completed the quiz, we'll investigate the division of Islam after Muhammad's death by listening to "Partisans of Ali: The Origins of the Shia-Sunni Split."  As we listen, we'll fill out a note sheet and Venn diagram to compare the two branches of Islam.  Then, we'll examine the term "jihad."  Finally, if any time remains, you'll work on the GoogleMap current events.
